Thank you for checking with us. We have some good news and bad news.
Due to the success of our 2008-2009 "boot camps" designed to help the nonprofit committees keep their revenues from dipping in the coming months, our
nonprofit calendar now only has available two openings in 2009 and five for 2010. Let me take one moment to advise those of you who are responsible for your charity auction event. At a time when it becomes
more challenging to raise the funds that you seek, you must stay focused what it takes to maximize the return of your event.
It is a tempting thought to cut back in some areas of your event. That is a logical thought and
some areas may need trimming. However, please learn from our experience in that if you cut back on the driving force of what maximizes the success of your event, then you hinder your success in the "name of saving
money."
Understand that the auction process is not just about "chanting numbers". If that were the case, you could simply rely on a volunteer and get the same results. The professional auctioneer uniquely
knows how to "work the crowd" and gain the respect of the "egos"*
in the room that bring the money to your event. The professional auctioneer also understands the psychology of keeping 200 to 1000 people caught up in both the silent and live auctions. If your guest simply show up, have fun, eat food and stay distracted then you just had a great party, not a fundraiser.
We often hear the painful testimony of organizations that cut corners in the wrong areas and have to wait an entire year to get back to what worked in the past.
As a professional auction firm that has conducted
hundreds of successful charity auctions, we look forward to maximizing the results of your event.
Best,
Jack and Bill
* the patron professionals bringing the big bucks to your event respond best and are
thereby engaged in the auction by a professional auctioneer. If the event seems to "amateur-ish" then they often "mentally check out" or participate at a lesser level. People often operate only at the level
of the challenge. It is imperative to the success of your event that the professional auctioneer sets and maintains a high bar of participation at all levels. There is an old saying among farmers that "if you increase your
yield only 10% your profitability grows five-fold". This holds true for fundraising. If you push your "big givers" and encourage activity overall in the ways that only a professional can do, your bottom
line will grow at a much higher rate.
